Every year, millions of tourists flock to Ibiza and Formentera in search of the sun, the beach and, above all, lots of partying. However, if you're one of those people who enjoy organising outdoor plans, you should know that both islands offer much more beyond the bars, pubs and nightclubs.

The islands offer you magnificent, postcard-perfect sceneries, allowing you to enjoy a host of outdoor activities and experiences that are hard to beat. Below we’ll tell you about the best things to do in Ibiza and Formentera to make the most of your holidays. 

Hiking and cycling

Travelling the trails of Ibiza and Formentera on foot or by bicycle will allow you to discover the islands in a more leisurely manner, enjoying the smallest details and discovering spectacular landscapes.

The island of Ibiza doesn't have high elevations, but it is a good place to give free rein to nature and sport lovers. You will be able to discover the island's natural heritage thanks to its extensive network of trails, which are adapted to each person's needs. Some of the places not to be missed are Sa Talaia, the Torre d'en Rovira and the Moscarter lighthouse, among others.

In Formentera, you also have a wide variety of trails that will allow you to explore the island and get to discover many emblematic places, such as Estany Pudent, Sa Cala, Far de Barbaria and Es Ca Marí.

Scuba diving

Due to the quality that characterises the waters of Ibiza and Formentera, diving and discovering the islands’ underwater world is by no means a difficult task, making both islands great destinations, sure to delight diving enthusiasts.

Some of the best places to dive in Ibiza can be found on the island of Conillera, the islet of Dau

Petit, the cliffs of the Cueva de la Luz or the Cala Llonga caves, the latter being better known as La Catedral.

In Formentera, the caves of Punta Rasa, Punta de Sa Gavina or Rocabella are some of the best places for diving. In addition to discovering a great diversity of marine fauna, you will also be able to discover underwater caves, posidonia meadows and underground rock labyrinths.

Kayak excursions

A kayak excursion is the best way for discovering some of the islands’ coves and corners of dazzling beauty that can only be reached by sea.

You can either hire an organised excursion or, if you're experienced, do it on your own. Best of all, many of the excursions can be done with children, allowing you to enjoy the experience as a family.

Some of the best kayak excursions in Ibiza start in Es Figueral, Playa d'en Bossa or Es Portinatx. In Formentera, some of the most popular ones are in Punta Prima and Cala Embaster or Es Pujols beach, which will take you to different nearby caves and cliffs.

The islands of Ibiza and Formentera offer you a wide variety of outdoor activities to choose from. Besides these, you can also go jet skiing or flyboarding, tour the islands on a motorbike or quad bike, and enjoy buggy excursions or cliff jumping, among many others.
